Coming from many colorful traditions, the Golden Tree Story's natural instrumental sound and memorable melodies create an eclectic listening experience for folk, classical, and jazz lovers alike:
"Openings" features original music by songwriter, Cynthia Marie at the piano, with Cameron Peace on guitar, Birch Pereira on bass, and Dave Bush on drums. Stories of love, inspiration, and friendship are woven together to reveal the duality of life - its delicate nature, ephemeral moments, and its enduring themes of strength and wisdom. With original cover art by Charlottesville painter, Courtney Grant, and photography by Yarrow Ulehman (Beauty in Reality), this album holds insightful works of sound and visual art.
Long-time friends and collaborators, the Golden Tree Story attends to each song with thoughtful arranging and tasteful instrumental playing. Cynthia Marie introduces her classic touch on the piano coupled with lyrical folk-singing - creating a fresh, diverse collection of tunes. On songs like, "One Last Time," guitarist Cameron Peace brings distinct melodies and a nice bell-like guitar tone to the ensemble. His textures sweep in at key moments in songs like "Free Again" creating the perfect setting for vocals. Birch Pereira adds feel-good grooves to tunes like "Brookman's Road" and "Tiumba", and shows he is equally at ease playing a sweet, melodic-style bass on "I am not I”. Dave Bush, on drums, a sensitive and tasteful player, creates unique and unusual textures to complete the rich tapestry of sound in the Golden Tree Story.
*Special guest, Kiera Clarke, is the voice reciting Juan Ramon Jimenez' poem "Yo no soy yo" and contributing the warm vocal harmonies on "Be True" and "If These Bones.
At live shows, the group performs compositions spanning the musical spectrum. Drawing from their personal musical journeys, they create inspired and fresh settings for poetry, classical pieces, and modern-day originals.
