HIP HOP’S DAMAGE CONTROL
THE SOUL REPAIR KIT
Delanor Baychester Productions
In our modern age, sound has moved to a whole new level. But the question is, has the depth and content of today’s music evolved at the same pace?
For too many conscious listeners, the answer is a resounding, frustration-laden “NO.” In fact, many of us commiserate on how empty and sold out today’s music options are. To find “really good stuff” you have to go old school or deep underground and flush your radio if you’re not listening to the very scarce, late night, independent shows.
But I’m here to tell you there is a light shining bright on the musical horizon. Delanor Baychester, a.k.a. Class, has stepped up and made an impact on the vinyl. His unique sound offers a rich blend of Acid Jazz, Hip Hop, R&B, and Rap. He’s taking Neo-Soul to a whole new level; one the L.A. music scene has never seen the likes of before.
Class expresses a deep love for music and admits he was fed up with the mainstream Hip Hop scene and the constant negativity it promotes. He wanted to hear something that moved him, that had depth and that gave a conscious outlook on life. Since nobody else seemed to be willing to “Bring It”, he decided to just do it himself.
With his second album, Hip Hop’s Damage Control: The Soul Repair Kit, Class has created a buzz in L.A.’s underground music scene. Conscious listeners are beginning to feel that our desperate pleas for music we can resonate with have finally been heard.
The tracks on this CD are Phat:
*The 1st cut, The World, is a rhythmic wake-up call reminding us that we need to step up and do our part in healing our world community. Marvin Gaye would definitely resonate with this one.
*The 2nd cut, Stay Righteous, is Funky, easy to roll to, bob your head to, guaranteed to get your crew movin’. This tune will make cats shut up and pay attention to the lyrics and then spark deep, philosophical discussions. If you want to get your crew “focused”, get them hooked on THIS. If you don the title “Conscious” you owe it to yourself to have this cut in your collection.
*Neo Soul meets Rare Groove, track 3, I’m Free, is easy and smooth. The rap style and total arrangement is Brilliant. This is where you can’t help but marvel at the genius Class brings to making music. You’ll find this cut Musically Poetic and Poetically Musical. If you’re on the Chill Room vibe this cut will BLOW YOUR MIND. Every chill room needs this cut to earn its self respect.
*If you want to “Get it Crackin” track 4, We Are Damage Control, is the joint. Spoken Word with a bright melody and vocals that evoke Dwight Trible holding up the back beats. This cut has a light vibe, but check the lyrics; they pack a surprisingly heavy punch.
*Acid Jazz meets Hip Hop and they hit it off in this one. The 5th track, @ Seven, is a beautiful blend of jazz vocals and Poetic Rap. You’ll dig this, trust me!
*The 6th cut, I Am, is guaranteed to move you physically and mentally. Straight up head bobbing Hip Hop with Nice Beats supporting the groove while the 7th , Hip Hop Meets Bee Bop throws hard hitting rhymes over Rare Beats. An eclectic collaboration that will DEFINITELY have heads talking.
*As for the 8th, Constant Battle, an eclectic guitar rift over back beats and unique rap style make this track a cutting edge crossover fusing Rock Guitar with a light Hip Hop beat and Funky Rhymes. Yes, this cut takes it to a WHOLE NEW LEVEL.
*The 9th and 10th cuts, Who’s Got Skills and The Rescue, hit you with Phat Beats and Mad Rhymes. These tracks are cutting edge and paving the way for a Hip Hop Renaissance.
*Jazz romances Hip Hop again in track 11, The New Vibe, with mad skill and track 12, Superistic Soul, brings the Hard hitting rhyme back supported by Funky, Neo Soul vocals and a trumpet rift that kicks it into the Funkadelic Stratosphere.
The music and lyrics, all Class’ own display of mad skills, are testimony to his musical genius. He writes and publishes his music as well as produces and records it in his own studio. Yes, this renaissance brother does it all. The real beauty of this album is its ability to blend styles with such grace and ease that it draws you into its own aura. The artistry shines through every nuance and you love it from the very first note.
I find myself playing this CD to help me keep my focus because the lyrics have substance. I admire the mastery with which Class crafts his music, and I know you will too. Getting Hip Hop’s Damage Control: The Soul Repair Kit is URGENT! Make it a Priority!
