ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The fluidity of water, cool and clear, allowing movement in any direction with buoyancy to hold oneself in its embrace. `Ike Pono has come to a new chapter in their lives, where free flowing ideas, understanding and a love of music transcends to a personal level...like that of flowing in “Deep Waters”.

Na mele Hawai'i kamaha'o
I listen to a lot of Hawaiian music - both on CDs and live whenever I get to the islands. I have to say that this is my favorite group and the CD I listen to the most often - far more than any other. 'Ike Pono (as well as being three of the nicest guys you will ever meet) are amazing musicians. They have wonderful vocals but the instrumentals really set them apart. There are so many "same old same old" renditions of classic Hawaiian songs, but you'd never mistake their versions for anybody else's (I am particularly thrilled that Ua Noho Au A Kupa is on here, since they played that the first time I heard them play live and I have been waiting for them to record it for several years). But wait, there's more...they are talented songwriters, as well. Ka Ho'olauna - about the introduction of the guitar to Hawai'i - is infectious, as it starts out with an acoustic guitar rendition of "El Paso" that bridges right into a song paying tribute to paniolos and kikas (guitars). E Ho'i Mai is another lovely, infectiously happy song. I think if I were on a desert island with a working CD player (!) - this is the only music I'd need to be happy and optimistic until I was rescued. Anybody who loves Hawaiian music should get this CD immediately if not sooner (yes, buy the whole thing - all the cuts are really, really good). Bobby, Stan and Michael, you guys rock!
