ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Illuminati Congo is a Chicago hip hop group hot on the scene with their self-titled, debut album. Vocalist Jahn The Baptist and producer The Graduate create an infectious blend of head nodding beats and unexpected grooves that will have you begging for a rewind! Musical influences range from reggae to latin to blues creating an equal blend of traditional hip hop and eclectic live band instrumentation. There is much more space for the musicians to shine than is typical in this genre. Instrument solos and "dub versions" are mixed throughout giving the lyrics time to settle in and relax.

Jahn The Baptist is unlike any other rapper out there. He is able to utilize his mantra of "as above, so below" to formulate a refreshing unity of the higher self and lower self. His lyrics reflect both his practice of spirituality and his embrace of earthly, human desires. His words are meant to appeal both to yogis as well as the inner city hood- with an authoritative demeanor that lets you know he is equally both. Having studied and taught Kundalini Yoga and Rebirthing Breathwork as well as being an avid herbalist in the Rastafarian and Egyptian mason communities, his true goal is to heal. Heal the world of its ills through awareness of self and the practice of unconditional love. Heal the hip hop genre of superficial MCs thinking that bragging and boasting will lead to chart success. Hip hop is an art form that has the ability to communicate complex ideas to a potentially large audience, let it not go to waste!

The Graduate has taken The Baptist's eclectic background and layered it with equally eclectic beats. Having been a musician, record collector and dj for many years in Chicago he is most attracted to music that elicits an emotional response. Rather than just being impressed by songs that get the dance floor packed or stay in your head for hours, he is always more interested in music with a meaning- or soul. The goal here is to combine these seemingly separate intentions. In producing the Illuminati Congo album, he has made it apparent that hip hop is truly a global style, combining traditionally heavy beats and bass lines with some unexpected twists and turns. In using a wide variety of live instruments and samplers he is able create a fusion that should appeal to both fans of hip hop as well as fans of music.

Vocal guests include major reggae recording artists Big youth, and Lutan Fyah, Cee Knowledge the Doodlebug from the legendary Digable Planets as well as Chicago veterans; Juice, Ang 13, Sharkula, Yaw and I Black.

The Meaning of ILLumiNatiCongo

Many people speak of a secret society that is dominating the worlds affairs from behind the scenes known as the Illuminati. To some the word may have negative connotations because these secret societies are known to manipulate the population for their own political and economic gain. We, on the other hand, interpret the word Illuminati in two parts: Illumin and Nati. Illumined simply meaning to be enlightend and Nati relates to the word Natural and the Nadis or paths of subtle energy in the Human Body. Natty congo is a name for RasTafari people, especially those with thick naturally occuring dreadlocks. RasTafari is a natural way of life centered around the worship of Haile Selassie I, Ethiopia, Red Gold and Green, Healing Herbs and oneness. When combined to form IllumiNatiCongo, the words represent the group's mission to bring about a new world order based on love, unity and natural living.

Anyone can observe that a new world order is required to sustain the delicate balance of life on Earth. Look around at the pollution, the poor health, the degradation of society, the starving and dying children of God, the tyrannical governments and the increasing violence and hatred toward one another. Illuminati congo along with Many other Light Workers are taking over the globe with Freely Given Love. This Love is being extended to all so please pass it on!  War can not stop war. Hate can not stop hate. Therefore, Illuminati congo is utilizing the power of love to embrace all and Unite and Integrate the Higher Self and Lower Self.
