Stark

by Josh Schroeder

The minimalist acoustic/folk driven companion to Schroeder's "Love is a Shade" EP, Stark is a melancholy offering that is not for the faint of heart. Stark highlights Schroeder's deeply personal lyrics and his signature vocals.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Recorded in the week following the passing of his grandfather, and in the midst of his work on the "Love is a Shade" EP, Stark is a cathartic expression of the dark loneliness that consumes the spirit in a time of loss. Schroeder displays his keen songwriting abilities and his passion for folk-balladry in this Dylan-esque approach to writing and recording.

The "stark," lo-fi quality of the recording is a result of the minimalist techniques he experimented with in his home studio, dubbed "The Warewulf Cave," and many of the performances were recorded live as one take using a single mic.

Though not for the faint of heart, and perhaps an acquired taste, there is something for everyone on Stark. Listeners will not only hear a deep sadness and longing within the seven songs that make up this collection but there is strength, love and hope by the albums end.

Stark is best absorbed on a late night, when you are all alone, and it rewards the patient listener...

Catch
I bought two tracks, Wishing Well and On the Fence (this!) and I really love both of them - lovely lyrics against a simple yet melodic background of music. Thank you for creating these and for your other album.
