ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This album, the 8th US release by Nando, features the beautiful voice of Esperanza Spalding, along with her grooving Bass playing, and Richie Barshay's amazingly musical drumming. Richie also uses Tabla and Cajon as well as many other percussion instruments.
Leala Cyr brings her great vocal skills and warm trumpet tone to some tracks, and a 16 year old Tiago Michelin makes his recording debut on two tracks.
Nando's music has a strong Brazilian influence on its harmonies, and a focus on rhythmic interaction.
The trio has a previous CD, "Duende" on Fresh Sound New Talent label, and Nando's previous CDs includ "When Einstein dreams" featuring Jeff Ballard, based on Alan Lightman's novel, Chants, featuring Chiara Civello and Jerry Bergonzi, Art, in which he explores plastic art techniques applied to music.
As a composer, Nando has always tried to explore the rhythms of South America from a Jazz perspective and create inspiring vehicles for group and individual improvisation.
