Rocket Flowers

by Nicky Rubin

Made in Ukraine. The result of 2.5 years hard gigging in Ukraine and Russia. "Rocket Flowers" are the empty shells fired by the Taliban onto Kabul, Afghanistan, then used by the citizens as flower pots for decoration. I lived in Kabul as a teenager.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
A little rough around the edges. Raw. The result of two and a half years living in Kiev forming a band with Ukrainian musicians called Rubin Hood, we gigged all over Ukraine and up to Moscow. I used two different studios and three different sets of musicians. and produced the whole album speaking in Russian. Obviously sonically it's very different from my "cleaner" English sound, but I had tremendous fun making this album, in particular with Serg Keen my engineer and Andre Shulakov my guitarist and arranger, not to forget my dear friend and guitarist extraordinaire Jenia Gorski.
I disbanded Rubin Hood when the players wanted more money for encores and I realised I could no longer work with the Soviet musician's mentality, it was time to return to London. Before leaving I decided to make a record of what I'd done there.
My love goes out to the country and the fans, although I doubt you'll ever see this site as all you ever do is nick music for free.
