Album Notes
To be honest this is nothing more than a collection of demos put together on the advice of an ex-manager, and I'm glad that we did. It's a record of very early song writing, but Colour of Rain is the original arrangement and is a performance I am proud of. It was produced by Alan Darby who's plays with Eric Clapton and guests on Heartland. Doves is a beautiful song about Vienna where I lived for 8 months with the band the Great Divide, and has some lovely guitar passages by Ian Lovatt. It's a memory of dark bars. Santo Spirito was a bar in Vienna where they only play classical music which increases in volume along with the drinking, so by midnight the place is just throbbing with symphonies and waltzes at full volume. These tracks where recorded after the Great Divide had just finished a 12 month non stop tour of Europe, going from town to town in our van playing for pizza's upwards, literally living off the land. This was a forerunner to War and Peace because it was in East London that I met with Danni the producer of the next album and also Sam Lionel Bart's (Oliver) talented pianist nephew who plays on some of the tracks.
