Quinn Sikora’s album Sci-Fi bills itself as “music for fans of science fiction” and lives up to its billing. The tracks “Ground Swell,” “Downloadable Dream #811,” “Stranger in a Strange Land,” and “The Last Days of Man’s Rule on Earth” would serve well as background music for a science fiction film, an animated video, or a role-playing session of Traveller or Star Hero. “Flying on the Winds of Space” reminded me of my favorite part of elementary school gym class, creating a routine of simple gymnastics to music -- and this tune would serve well for such a purpose. My favorite track to listen to, however, is the bouncy “Six Takes a Holiday.”
The short story “Lab Rats,” included as the second bonus track, is Quinn’s foray into narrative science fiction, and is a decent effort. While having a twist ending was expected, the exact nature of that twist still came as a mild surprise.
