A charming interplay of acoustic instruments evokes memories of a traditional Christmas. Arrangements include hammer dulcimers, mountain dulcimers, guitar, pipe organ, bowed psaltery, plucked psaltery, and a chime-like metal bar marimba.
Review: "Wonderful recording - so many nice instruments and Christmas tunes played as well as one could imagine. The arrangements are well thought out and show the feeling this musician has for each tune. The addition of the pipe organ on Jesu Joy Of Man's Desiring added such a regal presence to the piece. A must for Christmas." John Blizzard, Tamarack: The Best Of West Virginia.
The performances of Sam Rizzetta have been called “resonantly sensual magic.” His instruments are art works in themselves, having won many awards for excellence. Rizzetta instruments have been exhibited by the Smithsonian Institution and the National Folk Festival, and featured in Fine Woodworking Magazine. Sam’s performance credits include the Kennedy Center, the National Cathedral, and TV and radio appearances such as A Prairie Home Companion and Mountain Stage. The National Dulcimer Symposium Journal says, “Sam Rizzetta was just plain awe inspiring! We were priviledged to be watching a master player in peak form.” Frets Magazine wrote, “He builds instruments of awesome power and puts them to good use.” The New York Times concurs; “songs and reels played with lively charm. ...delightful.” Sam has been nominated for a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship for lifetime achievement in the arts.
