This collection of Russian and Georgian songs recorded by the talented siblings’ duo - Sandro and Tamara ERISTAVI - offers a sweet escape into an enchanting world of sentimental, old-fashioned serenades of abandon, hope and adoration. We are accompanied on this thrilling journey by the soothing and soulful sounds of the guitar. The delightful melodies of the album are complemented by fine poetry in Russian and Georgian languages, written by some of the finest poets of the past.
Flavorful performances of the duo evoke images of the past centuries, filling us with emotions of poetic nostalgia and tender yearning. Once described as fluid crystal, Tamara’s voice is moving and vulnerable. Weaving with Sandro’s warm and intimate timbre, it creates an atmosphere of a charming lounge of the late 1900s.
All the songs on this album are old traditional ballads from the 19th and beginning of the 20th Century, with the exception of the following three:
Track 8 - Na Krutom Beregu / On a Steep Riverbank – music by Sandro Eristavi, lyrics by Kateryna Bochenkova, written in 2006.
Track 12 - Perekrestok / Crossroad – music and lyrics by Sandro Eristavi, written in 1980.
Track 13 – Tam, Za Rekoju / There, Over the River – music by Sergey Nikitin, lyrics by Gennady Shpalikov, written in 1987. Sandro’s arrangement unexpectedly transforms this poignantly beautiful song, written as a traditional Russian ballad, into a mellow jazzy bossa-nova, where Tamara's vocal and Sandro’s voice trumpet harmonize in a way reminiscent of Astrud Gilberto and Stan Getz.
