ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
NOTHING TO SEE HERE is Ted Allen's first album. Recorded by the outstanding musicians at Song Cellar studios in Nashville, the songs blend catchy melodies with the raw emotion and clever wordplay that are the hallmarks of country music.

The album flirts with various styles, from straight-ahead rockers like "Hell Or High Water" and the title track to the harmonica-driven swagger of "Ain't Enough Whiskey (Going, Going, Gone)" to the poppy "Don't Touch My Heart" and "You Break It, You Bought It". "Her Heart Is In The Right Place" boasts a Beatles-inspired groove while "Down Easy" and "Last" evoke the lush harmonies of the Eagles and Rascal Flatts and the heart-on-sleeve vulnerability of Kenny Chesney.

Fourteen songs of hope and despair, love and lust, heartache, heartbreak, and other affairs of the heart: There's Nothing To See Here....

Songs That Rope You in from the First Track
Country music needs a couple basic ingredients. High on the list are singable melodies and lotsa fun details that we all can identify with. On his debut album, songwriter Ted Allen's tunes stayed with me long after my first listening, and I was roped in immediately by the lyrics, which are steeped in straight-shooting raw phrases, fresh metaphors and classic idioms that are smile-inducing one minute and heart-wrenching the next. Yes, these tracks tug at the universal, to the point where I'd think to myself, "I've been through that!" when i'd hear a line that resonated with me, or "Oh, of course!" when I'd hear a tried-and-true phrase. That is not to say the writing is cliched; to the contrary, Ted finds a fresh way to say these sentiments, whether through a witty turn of phrase or in an insightful and bracingly honest way. The down-home country arrangements are sometimes peppered with '50s-style rock 'n' roll to make for some irresistible chord changes and harmonies that blend the genres. Not sure who the singer is, but he is fantastic to listen to, emotionally connected and a great showcase for Ted's songs. Standouts for me include the pop-crossover shuffle of "Don't Touch My Heart" and the haunting melody and lyrics of the ingeniously constructed "Last."
