ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Three golden apples fell from the tree: one for the storyteller, one for the listener and one for the person who takes the story to heart.

The fanfare of the trombones announce the play is about to begin. The harp plays Tendrak's theme and the storytelling dragon begins to narrate the story. The curtain rises to reveal a colorful scene as the puppeteers bring the marionettes to life.

A Devil Meets Kate: The impish devil, Edvard, tricks the arrogant Kate into taking him as a suitor. Tables are turned when Kate clutches Edvard around the neck and says she will hang on forever. How will he escape?

The Swan Prince: The naive prince is bespelled a swan by a magician to escape the machinations of the evil Queen. Can he win the love of yonder beautiful princess and break the enchanted spell.

Journey with Tendrak and through the weaving of the story, discover how the characters are empowered to overcome their obstacles and become victorious

Let the listening to these stories through the production of A Devil Meets Kate and The Swan Prince adapted for CD enable the magic of your imagination to bring you into the joy and entertainment they have to offer.
This CD is not only enjoyable for personal and group listening at home but can make long trips seem shorter. It makes a great gift for any and every occasion. (Remember, deep down, adults like fairy tales too.)

BEHIND THE SCENES

These recordings were made with a full-cast of 12, including actors, musicians and vocalists.
Added was the music of St. Olaf Trombone Choir, harp playing Tendrak’s theme and special
sound effects.

Many stories from different cultures have variations on familiar themes in which the good
triumph and evil fall. This recording, with a full cast of actors, sound effects and music
draws us into two stories from the Czech culture. They are just as valid and exciting as the tales
of Brothers Grimm. These stories, which were originally for adult entertainment (pre TV &
radio), have been toned down a bit to be suitable for children and become family fare.

A Journey into traditional Czech folklore
Tendrak tells these tales straight -- as they were traditionally -- without any adapting to modern prejudices. These are unvarnished tales, told with humor and skillfully narrated. Takes you right into the realm of Czech Fairy tales from medieval times. I enjoyed the plot, the characters, and the narrated voices. I would love to see these tales on Tendrak's stage as a DVD with all the Czech puppets. Tendrak Theater is in Oregon, which is great for folks in the Northwest who would love to see lives performances. Short of that, buy this CD and enjoy being transported to long ago and faraway.
