Tony Douglas and I have been close friends for many years. I have shared countless stages in dozens of auditoriums and night spots with my cherished friend from Athens, Texas and have heard him perform the songs you are certain to enjoy within the tracks of this special album more times than I can recall. However, I have never heard him in better voice as he recaptures many of his hits from the past utilizing a tremendous crew of talented musicians and “back-up” singers who blend so splendidly and present a refreshing potpourri of renditions on various Tony Douglas classics which have become so “in demand” down through the years.
“THANK YOU FOR TOUCHING MY LIFE” was originally released in the early 70s and is still one of the most requested ballads on my radio show. Tony manages to give this very special love song new life via this album. Personally, I believe it sounds better than the original.
The same can be said for the great standard “HIS AND HERS” “MY LAST DAY,” “SHRIMPIN’,” and the half dozen other specials within this super produced, super performed album.
Please give an extra bit of attention to “ANGOLA CHAINS.” I honestly believe it would make a best selling “single” record.
All-in-all, it’s an honor to present “TONY’S BEST” to you.
Tony Douglas is like a brother to me. Come to think of it, we share the same birthday… April 12.
