The VW Boys
The VW Boys started out as idea by Tim White. Tim performed in a bluegrass band and was also promoting concerts in East Tennessee and southwestern Virginia in the 1980s. Always looking for a way to “do something different” he hired Dave Vaught to perform a magic show to warm up the audience at a 1989 concert with the father of Blue Grass music, Bill Monroe. The show went well and this stuck in Tim’s mind until 7 years later when he approached Dave with an idea. “I hear you can pick a pretty good guitar” Tim says to Dave. Dave says, “Well, I guess I do and I sing a little too.” Tim asked Dave to consider forming a group together that combined music, magic and comedy into one variety stage show. Dave did not hesitate. He said “Let’s do it!” After a few rehearsals in early 1997 Tim and Dave had the comedy and magic down very good. They did realize that to make the show complete they must have a good tenor singer and bass player so the music would be right. Tim had met and performed a few shows with Larry McPeak in the past year and had always admired Larry’s musicianship and singing with the McPeak Brothers from nearby Wytheville, Virginia. Tim suggested to Dave that they approach Larry for the job. One phone call and one rehearsal later the VW Boys were here! The VW Boys believe and know that music and laughter are the best medicines for mankind. A good helping of both each day is good for everyone.
This recording is the very best...or "Greatest Hits" from the VW Boys first 12 years of writing and performing together. What a hoot! Enjoy!
