Album Notes
The Project, The Personnel
This album was a pleasure for Bayorhythm to make and although it has been almost ten years since the “new” Bayorhythm recorded it, the songs and the presentation sound very current. This iteration of Bayorhythm was named in Atlanta the “future of jazz” winner in 2004; consisting of Abebi Stafford playing the Fender Rhodes sound on the Roland RD 600, Anton Harris playing the tenor saxophone, and Che Marshall on the drum kit. The album was recorded September 30th 2005, and into the next day, mixed and mastered. John Briglevich, of Sonica Recording in Atlanta, engineered the sound so that the sub-woofer hooked to the keyboard could be heard with such crisp clarity that it’s hard to tell that there isn’t a bass player. Although not officially released, a selection or two from “Are Changing” had air play on radio station WCLK in Atlanta. The group’s leader, Abebi Stafford, had retired indefinitely to start a family; and has returned to officially release this record in which he authored all of the songs (the first album containing all original works). In 2005 and 2006, Abebi conducted a concert tour in Europe where he played several songs from this album and from his prior release “Luminous Flux” for attentive audiences. A few songs from this album were also selected as semi-finalists in the John Lennon songwriting contest in 2005. Anton Harris and Che Marshall would eventually go on to tour with and R & B artist, Ne-yo and R & B Soul artist Roberta Flack respectively. Bayorhythm reunited briefly in 2009 playing a few dates in Atlanta that year. Abebi Stafford is currently hard at work writing and arranging songs so that it won’t be another ten years before his next album release.

Hip and Upbeat
I own Luminous Flux, an earlier CD by Abebi Stafford & Bayorhythm, and I love this group's style of fun and upbeat modern jazz. I eagerly awaited the release of another Abebi Stafford & Bayorhythm album. The wait was worth it; I love Are Changing. The music, written by Abebi Stafford, has a happy upswing that is perfect for riding in the car or as background for a dinner party. The CD begins with Susjam, a grand entrance of sax and keyboard that tickles the ear. Though I love Are Changing in it's entirety, my favorite track is Vertiginous Vertebra. This group has fantastic talent and I recommend you buy this CD and listen to it frequently. You'll be glad you did!

Fresh take on tradition
This album reminds me of so,e classic Lonnie Liston with the dedication to the rhythm and jazz blend laid over some silky keys. I am really appreciating so,e of the risks taken and well executed on this project as well as some of the more conventional and more easily recognizable melodies. Can we talk about these titles for a second? Somebody paid attention in English class. It is very artistically integral to be that dedicated to finding words that accurately capture the essence of a song specially when the songs have no words. I really respect that. Five year loan are just good old fashioned jazz tunes and I love that. Also, kudos to all the horn players. There was some really good chopping going on. Keep it going.
