ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Kids With Guitars, a 7-song EP, was originally released as digital-only in the spring of 2009, 5 years after the band’s previous release, Full Upright Position. It is now available for the first time on CD.

The germ of the EP dates to the band’s Spring 2007 tour in support of Australia’s You Am I, during which they were reminded how much they enjoyed playing together. Shortly thereafter they resolved to make more music.

With careers, kids and geographical separation making it difficult to write and rehearse in the same room, the band – singer-guitarist Tim Scanlin, drummer Marty Kelly, bassist Ross Murray and guitarist-singer Chuck Lindo - traded demos via the internet. In May 2008 they convened at San Francisco’s Tiny Telephone Studio with engineer Aaron Prellwitz (Neil Young, Death Cab For Cutie). The sound of the EP is a return to the band’s core competency – lean, dynamic indie rock with big hooks and Scanlin’s smart lyrics and distinctive vocals front and center.

Kids With Guitars represents Actionslacks’ re-entry into a musical landscape that has changed drastically since the release of their last album in 2004. The band’s decision to make the EP initially available through their web site on a pay-what-you-want basis reflects their enthusiasm for new models of music distribution and promotion, and their desire to reach as many new listeners as possible.
