Love his music
I love all of Adam Hurst's albums. In fact, my massage clients love him too. His music tells stories of magic, mystery, love, and tragedy. Also, seeing his live act is quite intrancing.....

Beautiful Music
Since the time I received the CD Baby newsletter including this extraordinary music, I was moved to buy the CD as soon as possible. Adam, your music is soothing, expressive, profound and nostalgic. I highly recommend it. Congrats!

Soothing, dark, relaxing
I instantly became a fan if Mr. Hurst the second I arrived at PDX. I would "high"ly recommend his music if you're the type of person who wants to get immersed in the soothing, dark, relaxing, mind drifting music Adam definitely hits the spot! You're very talented sir! I tip my hat!

Brett Campbell (Willamette Week)

haunting atmosphere
The Portland cellist’s seventh release marks a departure from the drone-grounded, solo modal improv of his live performances and recent CD outings. Hurst overdubs spare piano accompaniment that allows a richer harmonic language, more through-composed moments and, notwithstanding a couple of cuts (e.g. “Radiance”) with Middle Eastern rhythms and drone, a more European Romantic classical sound meets the old Windham Hill melodic acoustic style. As track titles such as “Elegy,” “Absence,” “Wake” and “Lament” suggest, the prevailing mood is melancholic, sometimes mournful, exploiting the instrument’s dark qualities. Others range from dramatic (“Summoning”) to plaintive (“Fragments”) to pensive (“View from Within”), all riding memorable, song-like melodies. The consistently somber mood across the 15 concise tracks makes it easy to bask in the.

Outstanding, inspired, and beautiful
This is once again an outstanding, inspired, and beautiful set of compositions by Mr. Hurst; it recalls for me, as all his work does, the grey, mist, and melancholy of the winter rains that buffet the north Oregon coast. I have not felt like this about music since I first heard Chopin's Nocturnes some 20 years ago. Mr. Hurst puts poetry in his strings and makes the listener as elated to be a member of our species as does Bach; his music simultaneously evokes passion, rejoicing, longing, darkness. What a privilege to have heard him play live at the Astoria market last fall.
