Album Notes
On the southern tip of Lake Michigan from the neighborhoods and housing projects of Chicago to the steel city of Gary some of the greatest soul music in America was composed, performed, and recorded. Legendary artists like Curtis Mayfield, The Chi-lites, Chaka Khan, and the two first families of soul The Jackson Five and The Five Stairsteps created and perfected their sound and stage shows there in the 1960s and 70s.

Born and raised on Chicago's South Side, guitarist Peter Aglinskas rekindles the music of these and other artists that poured forth from local AM radio stations during his formative years on his latest CD release SOUTH SHORE SOUL. This CD features twelve original solo fingerstyle guitar arrangements of soul music from Chicago and The Region, written and performed by Peter Aglinskas.

From the first fluttering guitar riffs on Peter's smokin' rendition of Tyrone Davis's 'Can I Change My Mind' to the final spooky refrains of The Flamingo's Doo-Wop classic 'I Only Have Eyes For You', the listener is taken on a unique musical journey through a repertoire that has rarely if ever been performed on the solo guitar.

On the tour de force 'Give Me Your Love', Peter's guitar arrangement distills the full orchestral texture of Curtis Mayfield's groundbreaking soundtrack to Super Fly while maintaining the power and presence of the original. You'll be wondering where the other guitar players are hiding when you hear Peter's performance of 'Rescue Me', as he keeps the melodies wailing, the horn riffs kicking, and the bass line thumping throughout. The silky-smooth guitar work on 'Ooh Child', the samba-groove treatment of 'Never Can Say Goodbye', the finger-poppin' funkiness of 'Soulful Strut'--these are memorable songs for every mood.

The tracks on SOUTH SHORE SOUL were recorded on analog reel-to-reel tape before being mixed and mastered in the digital domain. The result is an album that captures the richness of expression and warmth of tone that distinguish Peter's approach to the guitar. Recipient of the Chicago Cultural Department's Artists International Award, Peter Aglinskas has been delighting audiences for more than two decades with his signature blend of popular, classical, and world music influences.

One of my favorites
I love listening to this CD--it's very relaxing yet also upbeat. Puts me in a great mood. They're familiar melodies, but I never heard them like this on the guitar.
