Have you ever tried bungee jumping ? If you have, then you know what I felt the moment I decided to play all Paganini's caprices for the Stradivarius Tour in 2011. That feeling of emptiness, immediately followed by an explosion of colours and sensations, dazzling like fireworks. Certainly, it is not an ordinary cycle. These caprices are the most difficult works ever written for violin. and to play all 24 of them in one concert is the supreme proof of virtuoso intrepidity.
I always thought Meyerbeer understood him the best when he said "Paganini begins where reason ends".
Alexandru Tomescu performed Paganini's caprices on the Stradivarius violin from 1702, an instrument that belongs to the National Heritage of Romania.
