Army of Me

by Alex Domschot

Alex Domschot is a brilliant and fiery guitarist who combines the sound and power of rock with the improvising of jazz. On his cover of Bjork's "Army Of Me," he forms a tight power trio with bassist Percy Jones and drummer Adrian Harpham. This guitarist sounds unlike any other, showcasing the melodic beauty of the song while balancing aggressive passion and lyricism in memorable fashion. ---Scott Yanow, jazz journalist and author of 11 books

Fantastic reinterpretation of a cult-favorite...
Alex Domschot and co. knock this instrumental indie-jam favorite out of the park. The song is "Army of Me" originally by Bjork. If you're familiar with the tune, you'll recognize the signature bass+guitar vamp - but this time Domschot's searing guitar takes over where the vocals left off. The trio really expounds on the song, with impressive virtuosic-maneuverings on each of their respective instruments. There is a particularly stand-out performance by bassist Percy Jones, slipping in some down-right nasty syncopations you'd better strap in for. All in all, there is a vibe throughout that is reminiscent of Adrien Belew (King Crimson) / Tony Levin (Crimson, Peter Gabriel) crossed with the non-electro incarnations of Squarepusher - which, if you are familiar with these artists, will note - is pretty terrific.
