ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ginette Belanger

Ginette Belanger, from Montreal, originally a professional dancer and dance-teacher, received a diploma in jazz dance from 'L'Ecole Superiore les Ballets Jazz', followed by a certificate in dance at the University of Montreal.
This gradually evolved into a multi-dimensional artistic career. After many years of cinema acting, she was drawn back to singing, her first passion. Teaming up musically with her husband, the pianist Alex Gordon, she began performing jazz showcase concerts in many cities, including New York (Smalls, Caravan of dreams), London (Jazz after dark), Paris (La Villa). Residencies and workshops in Montreal followed (the Sarajevo, La Cine Lumiere, Les Minots).
Relocating to the Little Italy area of Montreal, the two realized their dream by setting up Worldgig.com recording studio, such that a series of jazz cd releases then followed.
Ginette's singing voice and vocal timbre has a uniquely rich and tranquil quality. Her effortless delivery is a delight to hear. The latest cd ('Cherokee' by Alex Gordon and Ginny B) is available to sample or purchase here at Cdbaby.com, plus many other outlets.

ALEX GORDON

Born in London, England, from Scottish descent, Alex's music stems from his awareness of people and their environment. He has travelled from London to Kenya, Italy, New York, New Orleans, Memphis and Montréal, where he then teamed up musically with his wife, Ginny B, the jazz singer.

Jam session regular, composer and improviser, Alex Bellegarde is a prominent player on the Montreal scene. He leads a quartet as well as the Ensemble Jazz Urbain de Montréal and plays with many Montreal-based Cuban artists. An intuitive and energetic player, he creates music drawn from a wealth of sources. His recent compositions, along with a great performance by his quartet, won the General Motors Grand Jazz Award at the 2005 Festival International de Jazz de Montréal.
A multidisciplinary player with a broad imagination, Alex collaborates with poets, visual artists and actors. Events include Jazz & Poetry, Espace Olibrius, Émergence Énergie, Live Painting & Music, to name just a few. He has also composed music for several Montreal theatre productions: Cornemuse-Théàtre d'Aujourd’hui (in collaboration with Philippe Brault), Emmanuelle Blanche-Centre d’Essai, La Tête Dans Les Nuages-Salle Fred Barry and more recently Hamlet Machine-Place des Arts.
Throughout high school in Quebec's Eastern townships Alex played with the award winning Ensemble Davignon and Stage Band. Moving to Montreal in 97, he explored the local jazz scene and while playing the ‹jams› met up
with bassist Skip Bey. Inspired and encouraged by Skip, he has gone on to play with bands such as Ohmz, MRJ and the Vic Vogel Octet and in many special events such as the Musicians' Solidarity Show, Évidemment Jazz and L'Off Festival de Jazz all highly representative of the Montreal jazz scene.
