Oregon – American folk favorite Alice DiMicele has released her 12th album, a children's CD titled “If I Were An Otter: Songs for Kids of All Ages.” The new album features a host of original children's songs, as well as a select group of standards, including songs by The Grateful Dead and Bob Marley and traditional songs. The album features Vince Herman, Jeff Pevar, Mikey Stevens, Crystal Reeves, and James Keigher. This is DiMiceleʼs first children's album.
Alice says, “Iʼve always wanted to record a kidʼs album and have been collecting songs for many years. My focus is to create music that both kids and their parents can enjoy together and with the SongBook/ Coloring Book parents can learn these songs to play with their kids. Artist DG House has drawn wonderful renditions of each song that kids can color. This music is meant to empower kids to be their best selves, to remember to follow their hearts, and to listen to the voice of nature.”
“The title track was written back in 1987 and I included a few favorites from my adult albums that kids have always responded to including Wise Old Woman, Celebrate the Rain (written when I was 11 years old walking home from school in the rain), and Made Out of Water. I also wrote songs specifically for the record including Hunting Song, City Mouse/Country Mouse (a duet with Vince Herman), Honey Bee Blues, and We Can Be Anything. I had fun arranging some old favorites like Jesse Fullerʼs Monkey and the Engineer which I first heard done by The Grateful Dead, David Malletʼs The Garden Song, Bob Marleyʼs Three Little Birds and a couple of my favorite traditional tunes: This Little Light of Mine and Simple Gifts,” says DiMicele.
The album features Vince Herman on mandolin and vocals (from Leftover Salmon and Great American Taxi); Jeff Pevar on dobro and banjo (who has backed Ray Charles, David Crosby, Ricki Lee Jones, and so many more); Mikey Stevens on bass, trumpet, vocals, and guitar; Crystal Reeves on violin, viola, and vocals; and James Keigher on bodhran (Irish frame drum), mandocello, and vocals (from Men Of Worth.)
“My kids are always asking me to play Alice's albums. It's going to be so great when I can put one on that was recorded with children in mind!” (Sev Williams, parent and long time fan.)
