ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Allison Au Quartet is a contemporary Jazz ensemble. Performed in a traditional format, Au's repertoire explores modern musical elements by embracing non-functional harmony, odd time signatures, and varying song forms. As a composer, she is constantly intrigued by new sounds and textures, and strives to emanate a sense of exploration and discovery in her work. She aims to create musical templates that sound fresh, unconventional, yet engaging and thought-provoking to the listener.
In 2011, the Allison Au Quartet was awarded the TD Bank Fellowship in Jazz scholarship to attend the Winter Residency at the renowned Banff Centre. The group returned again for the Winter Residency in February 2012.

As a composer/arranger, Allison’s work has been featured with the internationally acclaimed Metropole Orkest in Holland, The WDR Cologne Big Band Orchestra in Germany, Hilario Duran’s Latin Big Band in Canada, and The Filarmonica 900 del Teatro Regio and Torino Jazz Orchestra in Italy.
