ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Award winning singer Amalia has been performing Tibetan traditional and pop music for 7 years. An accomplished singer, song writer and composer, she writes and composes songs for Tibetan artists in Tibet and around the world.

Amalia was born in the USA and was influenced from a young age by her kindly neighbors who practice Tibetan Buddhism. The constant influx of visiting lamas, mostly from Kham, kindled in Amalia her interest in Tibetan language, culture and music. Her father, an accomplished musician and singer, also inspired her to take up music, at the encouragement of her whole family.

After completing highschool, she went on to study Tibetan language and in the process taught herself how to play Dramnyen (Tibetan Lute) and mandolin.

Amalia put out her first CD, Mountains and Deserts གངས་རི་དང་བྱེ་ཐང་། in 2006 and was subsequently nominated for and won a Tibetan Music award, making her the first ever non-Tibetan winner in a competitive category of a Tibetan Music Award. in 2007, she published ཕ་ཡུལ་བཞག་ནས་འགྲོ། Leaving Home, a modern pop album.

Since that time Amalia has continued to study Tibetan music, traveling to Tibet several times to collaborate with Tibetan artists.

She currently works creating Tibetan language educational documents for Tibetan students learning Science and English.
Amalia's biggest personal project right now is collaborating with Artists in Tibet. Due to cultural pressures as well as piracy, most young artists in Tibet cannot make a living on Tibetan music. Amalia hopes that through encouraging collaboration with Tibetan artists and hiring undiscovered Tibetan musicians, arrangers, and studio owners, Tibetan music will thrive.
