Amara Camara of Conakry, Guinea, West Africa plays the djembe and other West African traditional instruments with joy, power and energy. He has studied under some of Guinea’s most notable master artists including Moussa Sylla, Fode Yola and the late Mohamed Kemoko Sano.
This CD is dedicated to Mohamed Kemoko Sano, the revered teacher and mentor who inspired Amara and many young Guineans to reach their full potential as performing artists. Sadly, Papa Sano passed away in July 2006 in Conakry, Guinea while Look at It was being recorded in that city. Amara assembled an ensemble of incredibly talented musicians to create this vibrant and moving CD to honor a great man.
Amara has performed with Les Merveilles de Guinee, Les Ballets Africains, and other world renowned companies. Audiences in Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe and throughout the United States have enjoyed his performances. An extraordinary teacher who is an ambassador of the spirit of his country, Amara has generously and enthusiastically shared the music and culture of Guinea wherever he performs or teaches.
