Oblivion

by Ambre Hammond & Marcello Maio

Piazzolla wrote music that stirred every emotion, & the music of Piazzolla is a stand-alone genre. Passionate, angular, virtuoso, haunting & painfully beautiful with it's unforgettable melodies. Here, the piano and accordion collide to create pure magic.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
“Bravo, bravo, bravo! … This CD is extraordinary”

Lalo Schifrin - Hollywood Film Composer

"Being such an admirer of Ambre Hammond and a lover of Piazzolla, this music went straight to my heart. Add the passion of Marcello Maio and you have an experience that transcends genre and does what great music can sometimes do - it elevates the listener's consciousness"

James Morrison AM - Multi-instrumentalist

"This may seem implausible, but once upon a time sensuality and
elegance were not mutually exclusive. The music of Astor
Piazzolla provides timeless proof. The Argentinean composer
buoyed his exquisite melodies with tango rhythms, the end result
being like the caress of a beautiful woman. Sydney's Ambre
Hammond (piano) and Marcello Maio (accordion) realise seven
Piazzolla tunes (and two others) with all the panache that the
idiom demands. Above all they catch the rhythmic ebb and flow
between the phases where the music unfolds with infinite grace
and those that are taut with a tension akin to making eye contact
across a crowded bar. These gifted musicians may have just made
the ultimate seduction album..."

John Shand - Music critic Sydney Morning Herald

“The brilliant virtuosity of Ambre Hammond on piano and the intense, romantic passion of Marcello Maio, on piano-accordion, drawing us into the world of Piazzolla’s Tango …truly, a musical marriage forged in heaven!”

Dennis Koks - Radio Broadcaster/Music Critic

“The audience was enthralled by both the brilliant virtuosity of Ambre on piano and the intense, romantic passion of Marcello on piano-accordion and were immediately transported to another place and time.”

Quirindi Advocate - October 2011

“Piazzolla couldn’t have played it better himself…”

Malcolm Turnbull - Australian MP

Music to take you away
Evocative; romantic; graceful & transcendent.
This dialogue between two masters is a demonstration of tension & release, of motion & suspense; inhaling & exhaling. The selection of material shows great taste and the collaboration is powerful so the album takes you places: recollections of travel, thoughts of special times, hopes of things yet to come...

The partnership between these musicians demonstrates quality of experience & ability but also a want to make something greater than the sum of its parts. The ebb & flow of the conversation between piano & accordion is intricate but subtle enough to enjoy without interrupting activity or thought - it is the perfect subtext. Beautiful music for a romantic dinner, a long walk or simply for relaxation.
