ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Amma McKen, one of the most sought after apons (leader singers) of Yoruba/Lucumi music in the US, has been singing songs in praise of the Orisa’s for over 3o years. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. Amma has sung for numerous Bembes and religious ceremonies in and outside the United States, as well as colleges and universities conducting lecture demonstrations and performances.

On this project Amma is accompanied by a group of experienced musicians/singers and features members of the group of which she is the co-founder Omiyesa. The musical director is esteemed Cuban artist and accomplished bata drummer Orlando “Puntilla” Rios.

The title is derived from the Yoruba language of southwestern Nigeria which means, “The Owner of Songs is Eloquent”. This project is a compilation of eight songs derived from the Yoruba cultural tradition and religion known as Lucumi in Cuba and the United States. The songs include the bata orchestra, drum and shekere as well as an accappella selection in the style Arada people. The traditional call and response style of the songs and the masterful drumming and percussion will encourage all listeners to sing along and dance and will inspire and encourage all practitioners in their worship of Oludamare (God).

Awesome, this CD is truly a blessing.
Many kudos to Iya Amma. She is truly a magnificant flatter of Orisa. There is no way they can resist her call. The strength and harmony of the drumming and voices that supports her call is awesome. May we have many many more musical gifts from her. Blessings to all who contributed to the production of this CD.

What a blessing to have a cd in which each word is distinguishable from the next
After 17 yrs of listening to CDs fm Nigeria, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Brazil, it is with great satisfaction that we celebrate Iya Amma's success with this first of many successful musical productions. Maferefun Egun,Yemonya, and Olodumare for safeguarding and strengthening her voice to share so much love of Orisha with us today!

moniquedevon

a must have for Orisha devotees
Hopefully, this is the first of many CD's by Ms. Mcken. Her clear crisp delivery of the material allows the experience to be a educational one, i. e. one can actually learn the songs.
