I Know You By Heart (feat. Daniel Csikos, Michael Acker and Tavi Scurtu)

by Ana Maria Galea Quartet

The audition of the eight musical moments presents us with a warm and novel voice, engaged in an interpretative and lyrical pursuit, impregnated with the emotion of self expression. As the generic title of the album suggests, Ana Maria Galea truly desires to unlock our hearts with sincerity, naturalness - not pursued, but contained in its authentic affective vibration. And she does so by using diverse types and means of enunciation.

ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Ana Maria! – for those who do not know her so well, this personal debut album represents a pleasant surprise...And for those close to the artist, it accounts for an additional confirmation of indisputable qualities: talent, seriosity, commitment, desire for self improvement, together with modesty and perseverance. A defining trait, as artistic individual, is her double determination residing in the love for acting, paralleled with her love for the most creative way of expressing the art of sounds, jazz, which she also promotes by hosting professional radio shows.
As performer - but also as scat vocal improvisation as in "Moon and Sand" and “Straight No Chaser” - she presents her devotedness for her preferred genre, with accuracy of intonation and expressively, with a fine rhythmic balance, alternating the more animated tempos with the medium and lower ones (the latter ones are preponderant), combining two standard themes from international repertoire with two successful own creations (both lyrics and arrangement). The most often used is the quartet component, but there is also a duet element - voice and bass - in the deciphering of the ellingtonian theme "Solitude", as well as a trio theme - voice, piano, contrabass - in the live recording of the well-known song "My Favorite Things" from the musical "The Sound of Music". Be it dreamlike experiences, descriptive imaging or powerful voice implications, Ana Maria Galea impresses through the vibrant timbre of her voice, enhanced by a steadfast "sustain" that creates a feeling of safety and substance. As far as the artist's compositions are concerned, they are captivating: the song "Shall We Dance", by its natural and joyful ambient and the sequence called "The Dream", by its lyric character and gracefulness.
Ana Maria Galea was accompanied in the live recording studio by three talented instrumentalists: the main partner, piano player Daniel Csikos from Targu Mures, who is in a fine creative state (I consider his solos from "Left Alone" and “Straight no Chaser” as most inspired), contrabass player Michael Acker who has several remarkable improvisations (I would mention here the one from "Moon and Sand") and drummer Tavi Scurtu from Timisoara who is as discreet as efficient...
We would love for you to try for yourselves, with good and bad, the truth of these statements. Because, paraphrasing the words of a great conductor, "the auditor is eventually right". Therefore, listen and listen again to this album!
