Album Notes
“Andrea’s voice is liquid wonder—from straight dark rum to pink sangria. Her poetry connects to the deeper currents of everyday mystery. Her music mediates dark nights to visceral human delight. Andrea—on stage a channeler of colour, in song the soul of flow.”

Steve Berg, Author

“With the ease and pureness of a songbird, Andrea House engages audiences with her original songs. Her charm, honesty, and humbleness are simply heart-warming, and her truly amazing vocals will leave you in awe.”

Doug Ritchie, Host of Prairie Picking, CJSR FM88.5

“I have had the pleasure of hearing her sing in English and in French, and I have been witness to the dedication she brings towards her art. She is incredibly gifted…”

Francois Pageau, Chef des Émissions, Radio-Canada, Edmonton

“Andrea’s voice is delicate, rich and beautiful. It’s like a lover’s whisper that lures you in and then slowly, carefully breaks your heart; it is a voice that haunts you for days. Andrea’s songs are a soul laid bare without false bravado or self-pity and her performances woo and captivate audiences every time.”

Sue Huff, Actor/Playwright
“Through the years, as a radio host assigned to the artistic beat, I have come to follow Andrea’s career and can bear witness to the dedication she gives to her art. On stage she has an engaging presence and is a personable and warm performer with depth and emotion.”

Eve Marie Forcier, Animatrice, Radio-Canada, Edmonton

“Her stage presentation is quite frankly riveting and the quality of her singing voice undeniably compelling.”

Lionel Rault , Host of the Nine to Noon Show, CKUA

Andrea's Biography · 9.06.07

Andrea House is a singer with a penchant for melody. Her voice is reminiscent of the great singers of the 1940’s and 1950’s and her songwriting is dedicated to the exploration of these older forms of music.

Her earliest memories are of church hymns and country music. Records by Tom T. Hall, Don Williams and Dolly Parton made up her parents ‘modern’ music collection. Andrea’s musical education consisted of singing with her Grandma in a small white church in Arrowwood, Alberta, and watching her father pick out anything and everything on the guitar by ear.

Andrea spent her early twenties acting in musicals and theatre productions. She has been nominated for three Elisabeth Sterling Haynes Awards, and won Best Actress in 1990 for her role in “Babes in Arms” at the Citadel Theatre. With the encouragement of her guitar teacher, Terry McDade, Andrea started to play in and around Edmonton and in a short time was embraced by the local folk community, playing for such groups as the Northern Lights Folk Club, Uptown Folk Club and the Alberta Roots Music Society.

Encouraged by community support and the initial success her EP “Twilight, she went to work on her first full-length album in 2003. “Heart’s Hotel” was released to a sold out crowd at the Winspear Rehearsal Hall in January 2004. Since then, Andrea has toured to Winnipeg, Toronto and Ottawa, where she performed at Alberta Scene in 2005. She has played the South and North Country Fairs, the Edmonton International Street Performers Festival and the Edmonton Folk Festival.

Andrea’s most impressive achievement to date, however, is the family she has made with her partner, Chris Smith. Together they parent two lovely girls. Andrea is also very proud to say that she has a degree in French Literature and is a Registered Acupuncturist. In every area of her life, she believes in the joy of doing. So, to this end, Andrea spends her time working, writing music, doing the laundry, playing hopscotch with the kids and playing live shows.

Chris Smith's Short CV · 9.06.07

After a brief academic hiatus from the national music scene, guitarist, songwriter, producer Chris Smith, returns to touring and making albums with acts Le Fuzz, Andrea House, John Henry, Terry Morrison and The Almost Leather Band. From the end of the second wave ‘80’s punk/hardcore scene in Edmonton, to touring nationally and internationally with Jr. Gone Wild, Uische Breathe, The Painting Daisies, Luann Kowalek, and The Piemyn, Chris’ career is one of exploration, both musical and geographical with a discography spanning twenty years and including over thirty albums. Chris also tours as a solo songwriter and with his own band—The Almost Leather Band and has made multiple appearances at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, Mariposa, The Regina Folk Festival, The Ottawa Folk Festival, Canadian Music Week, COCA, SXSW, Seattle’s Bumpershoot Festival, and the Winnipeg Folk Festival.
