About Border Lines
Andrew is a contemporary folk musician and songwriter from Felton, Northumberland who draws his inspiration from the hills, valleys, beautiful coastline and rich history of Northumberland. He is an accomplished folk guitarist whose songs resonate with the thoughts and images that are stirred by our surroundings and also the stories of the lives lived by Northumbrian folk in the past.

Song writing has always been a part of Andrew and no matter how convinced he is that the latest song is the last song in him there is always another and then another waiting patiently.

Earlier albums contained songs such as “Northumbria’s Pride”, “Holy Isle” and “Walk With Me” which bring to the fore the feelings many of us have for the county of Northumberland, the wonder that is Lindisfarne (Holy Island) and the historic castles, buildings, hills and scenic views we have here on our very doorstep.

Andrew has now added his latest CD to the collection. Entitled “Border Lines” the songs on the CD focus particularly on our northern heritage. “Herring Girls” highlights the hard but enjoyable life of the girls who used to travel the length of the east coast, following the herring fleet as it brought its catch to various ports. There are songs about the men who sailed Trawlers out of the Tyne, and the Border Reivers – the great raiders along the Anglo-Scottish borders for centuries. Another track features the Flitherpickers – who spent their day gathering limpets on the shore and baiting lines for the fishermen – a forerunner to today’s cockle pickers.
