In my life as a songwriter, I have found many sources of inspiration. Life, in all its complexity, certainly has gifts to give to any artist who is paying attention. But one of the greatest for me turned out to come from a formal abstraction: some simple idea that would govern a whole suite of songs. What the 19th-century guys called a Song Cycle. 12 months of the year, 12 songs. 20 years of my own past, 20 new songs. They came so quickly when I worked like this! I’ve already released the albums ”20 Years” and ”The Well-Tempered Singer-Songwriter: 24 Moods” (the latter based on Bach’s old idea of covering the complete cycle of major and minor keys), and now I am happy to release the album at hand, written in 2007 and recorded in January-February of 2008. In this case, I wrote from titles. One for each letter of the alphabet. It seemed such an absurdly simple starting point. I’m kind of amazed today to see what a breadth of feelings and memories, and music, it triggered.
It’s all me here, on voice, guitar, bass and drum, recorded in my own studio here in Stockholm.
All the songs on this album are available for download in lead sheet form at my website www.andyfite.se. Click ”Media” and then ”Sheet Music” and grab anything that interests you. There are about 120 songs there now, free for the taking. I’d be so glad to see some other people sing some of them.
Thanks for visiting! Hope you enjoy the music.
