Growing up in Chicago and living in Austin since 1999, Andy has honed his musical tastes and style surrounded by musically rich environments. After first teaching himself to play guitar, to what some have described as a "guitar virtuoso", he took to the acoustic and piano to sculpt his songwriting and vocal skills. His early career was rooted most deeply in blues and blues rock. Naturally a guitar-heavy genre, this is evident in his first album, "Set Me Free". His follow-up album "Revolution" turned his focus to a little less about the guitar (although still a major character) and a little more about songwriting and composing. "Ruby" makes the transition complete with a heavy-hand on constructed songs, melody, and vocal performance. Being around great artists of all genres, his influences range from pure and modern blues, classic and modern rock, pop and country. His music is peppered with these influences but the underlying flavor is uniquely his own.
"He’s fluid, versatile, and gutsy - he never lets technique trump what he wants to express.
But he’s not just showing off - every note has a purpose and comes straight from the heart..."
-Marsha Mann, INSite Austin Magazine (March 2010)
"His outgoing personality, mischievous sense of humor and obvious love of life aside,
he is a 'bluesman'... but, it's also obvious Macintyre is looking to forge his own brand of music."
- Nancy Adamson, Midland Telegraph Reporter Aug. 2009
