'Angel Tech', released on Brain-gel records, is a short but sweet album packed full of subversive pop stories: futuristic and yet somehow familiar, off-kilter and yet accessible, where a sparkling sonic universe wraps the listener up completely without ever swamping the songs. Like ABBA hard-wired into the Aphex Twin, like Bjork flirting with Billy Bragg - at times joyful, barbed, playful, modern, danceable, intelligent… and sometimes just beautiful
Angel Tech are Neil, Tim and Doug from Bristol UK.
This is Angel Tech’s second album, recorded and produced by the band in true DIY style in various studios, bedrooms, basements & public places all over the UK. Their first, recorded at Peter Gabriel’s Real World studios in 1999 has yet to be released. Back then, the band were signed to Chris Blackwell’s ‘Palm Pictures’ label and, along with Coldplay were touted by the NME as ‘the next big thing’ of 2000. During this time Angel Tech showcased at SXSW in the US, released two sell-out E.P’s, ‘The Angel Tech Geometry Set’ and ‘Constellation Songs’ and completed two successful UK tours. The band also composed and toured a live soundtrack to Fritz Lang’s classic black & white movie ‘Metropolis’ to rave reviews.
Neil, Doug & Tim have now set up their own record label ‘Brain-gel’ through which they can release their own material on their own terms, as well as putting out music by other artists. Brain-gel has secured the rights to the first Angel Tech album, which will be released sometime soon, so watch this space...
