Anne Harris\' Gravity and Faith is a journey.
At times the work is achingly lovely; at other times quite unexpected. It is her strongest, most compelling work to date. Her voice exudes a revealing honesty and deep-rooted strength, while her fiddle playing and string arrangements have never been more compelling. Says Anne,
\"I envisioned this collection of songs to really bring the listener in on a personal journey into some of the places my head has been spinning over the past couple of years. My intention was to do this sonically, lyrically, vibrationally, and energetically.\"
Harris\' myriad musical influences continue to define and shape her unique sound, and this record finds them married in a very cohesive, seamless way. There is an uncanny ease with which a straight ahead rock song fuses with a traditional-sounding Irish tune which in turn feels right at home next to a power-pop anthem.
To help realize her vision Anne teamed up with producer/engineer and multi-instrumentalist Brando, a fast rising newcomer on the Chicago indie rock scene whose mastery of commercial production has earned him many insider accolades.
\"I\'d crossed musical paths with with Brando a few times over the years and have always admired his work. He has a unique ability to really channel the essence of a song and the technical fluency to create that magical space where the song can breathe and fully blossom. When he told me he was starting his own studio, I couldn\'t wait to work with him. He had been following my career and really understood who I am as an artist and where I wanted to go with this new record. It was the most freeing, and explosively creative experience I\'ve ever had in the studio.\"
Gravity and Faith is a reflection of that pure creative freedom. It is by far Harris\' most fully realized work. The textures are varied, thick, and strikingly cinematic. She boldly splashes colors across her sonic canvas that beg the listener to open their imaginations, inviting them to see what might come next.
Breathing life into Gravity and Faith is Anne\'s versatile and formidable powerhouse band, comprised of some of Chicago\'s most in-demand touring and session musicians: guitarist Chris Siebold (Howard Levy), bassist Greg Nergaard (Las Guitaras), and drummer Rich Stitzel (Miranda Lambert.) Their strong ensemble presence is at the root of this record, giving firm footing to all of the production ideas that catapult these songs to the next level of Harris\' imagination.
Gravity and Faith is indeed a sonic sojourn into one of indie rock\'s most unique and compelling voices. This is a trip not to be missed.
