ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Another Tangent is:

Damian Breen (Guitar/Vocals/Harmonica)
Jim Diehl (Bass/Vocals)
Michael McGrath (Drums/Vocals)

Following a brief hiatus, Another Tangent has returned with a blazing new EP, FLY. This 8-track offering represents a new peak for the eclectic San Francisco Rock outfit. “2012 was a tough year for the Band” said Damian Breen (guitar/
vocals) “but we’re fighters and I think that comes through in the new EP.” Founding members Breen and Jim Diehl (bass/vocals) have been joined on this recording by Michael McGrath (drums/vocals) who replaced Mark Sharron in 2012. “Mike was a god-send” said Diehl “His personality and playing just clicked from day-one.” The results are easy to hear from the first drum lick on the EP’s rocking title track “Fly,” through the weaving reggae rhythm of “politics as usual,” and on through the folk infused “Wandering Gypsy Soul” and Motown inspired “get funky.” The EP is rounded out by re-recordings of “Dusty Highway” and “Underground,” the new Louisiana inspired “Swamp Blues” and “Jim’s Wandering Gypsy Soul” an alternative take of the EP’s third track. The EP is a diverse, toe-tapping, bluesy and by times hard rocking effort that captures the band’s sprit almost perfectly. “Its a hell of a way to start out” said McGrath “I’m looking forward to what comes next!”....and with Another Tangent what’s next is usually something completely different.

More about the Band:

Another Tangent is a San Francisco based band known for its live performances and eclectic musical style. While deeply steeped in the rock and blues tradition, the Band also delivers a wide range of other music that spans many genres, including ska, swamp and americana. This mix comes as a result of the diverse makeup of the band:

Damian is an Irish native from Clare, a region famous for its traditional rish music, an influence that gives his guitar playing a unique style and phrasing.

Jim Diehl is a Bay Area native and whiskey throated vocalist whose musical influences cover the spectrum from Black Sabbath and Cream to Jaco Pastorius and Bob Marley. Using these influences he weaves a low end that is intricate and driving.

Michael McGrath is an LA native and veteran of the sunset strip music scene. His diverse musical influences include Frank Zappa, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Rush and Robert Earl Keen. His rock solid meter and live wire kick drum thump give the band its pounding pulse.
