It's ANU day dawning in Hip-Hop and as the tides shift in the music industry, A&R's everywhere find themselves searching high and low for Anu sound, Anu style, Anu~Sun. Anu is a BMI artist/songwriter whose eclectic brand of music fuses the innovative styles of such artist as Mos Def, Erykah Badu Lenny Kravitz and the Roots. With Anu being a drummer and the godson of late jazz great "Lionel Hampton," one can understand why his love for music runs so deep. While the heavy Kick and Lyrical Flow of Anu's music convey a Hip-Hop feel, the quality musicianship pays homage to a collective of jazz, rock and world music influences.
Born son of a minister/counselor mother, and an artist/activist father, strong family values and community service were heavily stressed in the household of this Las Vegas native. Anu's socially conscious perspective has manifested itself in his music. These thoughts can be heard on such original songs as "Soul Brotha, Phenomenal Woman and "Nu'age Revolution."
Upon his graduation from Arizona State University in 1998, Anu moved to New York to work as the personal assistant to Lionel Hampton and pursue his dream of becoming a world renowned recording artist. Since his arrival to the Big Apple, Anu has shared the stage with such iconic artist as Bilal, Amel Laurrieux, Dwele, Talib Kweli, Q-Tip (A.T.C.Q) Buckshot of Black Moon and entertained crowds at private events for Marc Ecko Enterprises and Scion.
Anu has invested a great deal of time into developing the unique sound he calls Bohemian Chocolate (an eclectic blend of Hip-Hop, Rock and Jazz brewed for the fine music connoisseur). Now making his home in Harlem, New York, Anu regularly serves his "Nu" fusion to packed crowds in some of New York's most notable underground venues. S.O.B's, Joe's Pub, The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, Wordstock Inc and the BAM Café just to name a few.
When it comes to recording, Anu has cut no corners in the crafting of his debut E.P. "Bohemian Chocolate." Aside from being richly organic in its offering, the project is packed with all-star accompaniments from musicians who have played with the likes of Bilal, Lauryn Hill, Floetry, Mos Def, Mariah Carey, Q-Tip and Roy Hargrove. Icing the cake, Anu acquired the talent of famous Jazz trombonist/producer Delfeayo Marsalis and Benny Steele of "The Steele Factory" to mix the project. Now you be the judge! Dare to be the first, to hear what's next. Anu~Sun, Hip-Hop on Anutha level!
