This is the new release from Western Music Association singer/songwriter and recording artist Aspen Black. It includes 7 songs and two poems. Aspen's latest poetry CD "From the Heart of a Cowgirl" rose to number 2 on the WMA charts, and finished in the top ten of the Western Music Association cowboy poetry CD's of the year for 2012. She is also currently nominated for Western Music- female, Western Music Album, Poet-female, and Cowboy poetry CD of the year in the Academy of Western Artists.
Aspen Black is a horseback riding instructor, trainer, and competitor in multiple disciplines. She is a former rodeo barrel racer, with numerous local and NBHA titles. She owns and operates Buksbari Ranch, and is the founder of the “Empowered Riding” program. Aspen is also an artist, author, poet, and singer/songwriter with over 20 years performing experience. She is the president of the WMA East Coast Chapter, secretary of the WMA Western Wordsmiths Chapter, and a member of the AQHA, Western Dressage Association, PHSC, FCEC, and Southwest Virginia Songwriters Association. She also works as a remediation and enrichment tutor at her local elementary school.
She performs at many festivals, coffeehouses, churches, conferences, and special events as a solo act (vocals and acoustic guitar), part of a duo (joined by husband James Black on acoustic bass), as half of “Cowgirls to the Cross” ( a ministry of singing, dancing, and cowgirl poetry with her horse, Foxies Gambler), and with her Christian band “Empowered”. Aspen has enjoyed nearly 10 years of radio airplay of her songs and poems on western radio shows in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. She also released two Nashville-based Country albums with charting singles in the mid 1990's, and several music videos.
She lives with her husband, children, and numerous animals in the mountains of southern Virginia. She is currently working on a new CD, and authoring a book on her horsemanship method entitled, Empowered Riding.
