The Child Inside is a collection of songs written by Barbara Allen for school age children and their families - not nursery songs, just truly great songs for singing and listening. Each has its roots in issues children find important although the messages are purposefully subtle: diversity in friendships, the idyll of “losing oneself” in a book, how to accommodate numerous friends at a party, and not wanting to go to bed.
Barbara Allen is a long-time musician, songwriter and teacher who has sung for and with thousands of young people in her life. Many East Coast residents will also know her from the country/bluegrass band Easy Pickin’, widely acclaimed for strong four-part harmonies, interesting and wide ranging instrumentation, an extensive repertoire, and an amazing knack for interacting with audiences.
Other professional musicians are featured on The Child Inside including pianist Rob Silvan (find him on CD Baby and iTunes "The Breathing of the World"); vocalists Linda Shackelford, Rick Woodman and Jeremy Grob, teachers at wonderful Connecticut schools; a young vocalist KK Mink (who has now grown up); Laura Vecchione, a super talented singer-songwriter (find her on CD Baby and iTunes - "Deeper Waters" and "Girl In the Band"); and Joe Knowlton, who has a long history of making people happy with his banjo playing, wit and charm. Find Joe on iTunes - "Joe and Bing."
Children love music. So, give them good songs to sing and good stuff to sing about. That makes for the best of everything.
