ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
„Barbara’s writing has so much imagination and sophistication. She has instantly become one of my favorite composers and arrangers, and I look forward to watching her rise to stardom in the music world. She’s one of the very best.” - Christian McBride

"For as long as I can remember the Big Band Sound cast a spell on me. I was fascinated by the energy and the rhythm that came from the swingbands and dance orchestras of the 30ties and 40ties. Later, in the course of my jazz piano studies, the music of Gil Evans, Stan Kenton, Oliver Nelson, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Bob Brookmeyer and Maria Schneider (and many others) came to my attention and I discovered, that a Big Band not only lives from its power but also offers a wide and deep range of sounds.

My first compositions and arrangements arose during my studies and meanwhile one can find a bunch of music lying on my desktop making a plea to be played finally. So it was time to found my own Big Band with my favourite musicians to arouse the written score." - Barbara Bruckmueller

"And the Big Band Album of the Year for 2013 is... The debut recording of the Barbara Bruckmueller Big Band. Yes, 2013, and I'm only half joking. I've been a fan of Barbara and her band for a couple of years. I love her sensibility as a composer. She's deeply embedded in the jazz tradition, but is by no means bound by it. Her compositions happily embrace other influences; the sounds that she creates are fresh, gorgeous, soulful. Not surprisingly, her band attracts fantastic musicians. (...) I'm betting right now that it will be my favorite big band recording of the year.(...) Fine and funky playing, straight from Vienna, Austria." - John Edwin Mason
