Barry's professional career began at the age of 17, when he was asked to perform at the Monterey Jazz Festival with an all-star big band conducted by Oliver Nelson. From the late 1970s to the present, Barry has been involved in LA's entertainment industry as a performer and recording guitarist
with artists such as the Pointer Sisters, Willie Bobo, John Klemmer, Moacir Santos, Auracle, John Serry, and Kitaro. His original compositions have been featured on many TV soundtracks, including "Two on the Town," "Eye on Hollywood," "Partners in Crime," "The Tonight Show," "Weather Channel," and "Playboy After Dark," plus the feature films Fatal Attraction and Dead Bang.
Recently, Barry's collaboration with bassist Jimmy Haslip has produced an impressive selection of original compositions that can be heard on Barry's CD The Spirit Within as well as the Yellowjackets' CD The Spin, Luis Conte's CD Black Forest, and Union Station's CD Junction. Barry's The Spirit Within CD is a collection of original compositions written by this dynamic duo. It features Barry's dazzling guitar synth work combined with Jimmy Haslip's virtuoso bass playing and writing.
This year Warner Bros.published the duo's guitar and bass instructionl books called Ultimate Play-Along/Just Classic Jazz/ vol 1, 2 and 3.
