To Break The Arrow of Time is Barry DiGregorio's second solo guitar synthesizer album and is a musical exploration of what the meaning of time is. With the help of fellow New Wilderness musician Wayne Webb on woodwinds, percussion, and effects, this new album sonically tries to capture the concept of escaping the forward motion of time. DiGregorio says, "Playing guitar synthesizer music is vastly different from playing a keyboard synth as the guitar strings vibrate and ring out for long periods of time. I can get sounds that no keyboard synth can. The gigs and planetariums I have played for enjoy this style of music to go along with their laser light shows. It is very cosmic material."
The arrow of time is the constant forward motion of time. We experience it every day as we grow older. Yet, when we look out at the stars on a clear night we see them not as they are now but rather as they once were when their light left them untold millions or billions of years ago. In effect we are looking at the universe as it once was, not as it is today.
Astronomers have used their telescopes to see stars and galaxies that are billions of years old, even to the beginning of time itself, thus we have a portal into the past. It is this property of light that allows us to see the past in vivid detail. Consider this: If we lived in a distant galaxy 2 million light years away and if we had an advanced enough telescope to look back at the Earth itself, we would see it as it was 2 million years ago. Thus the recorded images of our lives and all we accomplished during them is even now traveling through the universe like some unending movie film. We ought to thank the stars for giving us this immortality. Everyone you ever knew or heard of is still out there - traveling on starlight. Physicists today are searching for ways to make time travel possible and if they ever do find a method for traveling backward or forward in time - the arrow of time will have been broken. Meanwhile, you the listener can free yourself from the bonds of time simply by listening to this album. Enjoy!
Special thanks is given to Wayne Webb Studio's for the recording of this album.
