In 2012, violinist Robert Bielak joined bassist Gary Smejkal and studio engineer Kevin Federico to produce "When Angels Cry". Called "Hauntingly beautiful" and "Evocative", the first studio effort from Bielak, Smejkal, and Federico catalyzed the genesis of BASSO NUDO, which means "naked bass" in Italian. Percussionist Ray Chiffy completes the roster.
Metronome Magazine called Smejkal "Fluid, expansive, and filled with flurries of bass notes".
Bielak studied violin under Antoni Hoffman at the Frederic Chopin Music School in Olsztyn, Poland. He has worked at the Music Theatre in Gdynia and as Musical Director at the Dramatic Theatre in Olsztyn.
