In the eighth chapter of the book of Romans it reads “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Bertha Barrett’s life is proof of this scripture and is beautifully expressed through her music and is clearly heard through the words in each of her songs. Undoubtedly she has taken her past experiences with overcoming life obstacles and transformed them into lyrical songs of deliverance as she writes with compassion, authority and the anointing of God – the release of her CD “I Believe” marks the unfolding of her profound talent and just one of her divinely appointed purposes in life.
She has traveled part of the USA ministering in song at varies churches and venues and is generally known by her maiden name Bertha Freeman; she has been blessed with the opportunity to set the atmosphere for anointed speakers such as Evangelist Jacquelyn McCullough, Bishop Brian Keith Williams, Dr. Gary L Hall Sr., Evangelist Jonathon McKnight, Dr. Michael Freeman, the late Bishop G.E. Patterson and host of other kingdom leaders.
She has appeared on TBN as one of their solo artist and has also come before some of the most prolific gospel artists known around the world; “Rev. Timothy Wright, Ben Tankard, Fairest Hill, LaShun Pace, Judy Peterson and many others.” Earlier in her life she opened performances for famous Blues Singers “Bobby Womack, Millie Jackson, Bobby Blue Band and the Manhattans; she has performed in the off Broadway play “Mamma I want to sing” with Stage Aurora and has at times performed between acts at various theatrical performances.
Without mention Bertha’s love for varies music is heard through this project; the CD “I Believe” is most notable for it’s striking stylistic diversity with a little Hip Hop, Jazz, contemporary and traditional music this project speak to both the Gospel and Christian music industry.
The title cut “I Believe” is a high spirited tune that reflects how Christians should believe according to Mark 9:23 “Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” while “He’ll see you through” encourages God’s people to trust Him. “This is the song that God used to encourage my heart and to let me know that with every season that comes He’s right there with me and this is what I hope to get across to the people of God where ever I go so that they to would know that all you have to do is trust Him!”
“Shout” written by her oldest daughter Tamika is a high spirited Hip Hop jam, that will encourage you to walk by faith then shout because He’s given you the freedom to do so. The smooth jazzy sound of “Joy” co-written by her youngest daughter Tashinea gives meaning to how sincere Christians feel toward living in the presence of God. “This is my dedication to the Lord for the gift that He has given me, for the many things that He has done for me, for His undying love towards me; Oh my! Every time I think about the Lord my heart is filled with so much Joy and only He can do that!” My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You, and my soul, which You have redeemed. Psalm 71:23
The album closes with the gentle sound “The Beauty of Your Love” an acoustic guitar melody devoted to the Lord reflecting on the many ways He expresses His love toward us everyday through all that He created while “Genesis 1” becomes the driving force of this song – “It was in the beginning and still is His will that we enjoy life and that we’re able to see the beauty of His love through all that He has created here on earth for us.”
The I Believe project is filled with inspiring yet anointed songs that will easily encourage both Christians and Non-Christians alike.
