ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
‘Raw Power, Can you Feel It’ is about the only way you can describe this release;

‘Big Country‘, ‘and.. In the Beginning‘.

Iggy and The Stooges', ‘Raw Power’ album was one of the few records that Bruce Watson owned, along with a clutch of ‘Skids’ singles, when Clive Parker arrived in Scotland to start work with him and Stuart Adamson. ’and… In The Beginning’ transcends the rows, tragedy, court actions, in-fighting, 'tribute bands', controversy, and dodgy releases - drilling down to the very essence of ’what it is’, the ’RAW POWER’ of this phenomenal British band. Just about everything that can be said, has been said, about Big Country, so we’ll leave that to others.

Four hugely talented young men embraced Stuart Adamson’s genius, moulding the band’s iconic sound and anthemic riffs…. from Parker’s vast Keith Moon influenced rattling drum-kit, Alan Wishart’s tunesmithying bass licks, to Peter Wishart’s much imitated Scottish keyboard trills, and unique melodies - its all here, the ‘whole deal’, the full creative power behind one of the all time greatest UK Rock bands..

When you listen to this record, you’ll cry, laugh, and dance - turn it up !! RAW POWER

Heart & Soul
the gig recording is pretty raw!.. would have bought this just for the versions of Balcony (which has a brilliant Peer Gynt style bass tune from Alan Wishart), and Round & Round with a fantastic little guitar solo from Stuart. Seems fairly expensive, but I suspect they’ll be some on eBay later for twice the price. Obviously not a patch on the later Mark/Tony Big Country, there’s plenty of compilations out there at half the price; everyone says there were at the first ever Sex Pistols gig, and the legend will go, that this first BC was a packed gig.. Its obvious from the echoing Glen Pavilion that there are just a couple of hundred Skids fans come out to see Adamson’s new band; a very nervy Adamson, some catcalls from the crowd- fascinating. The vocals get a bit lost occasionally, but the providence is rich, and the band motor into Harvest Home, and Heart & Soul like the MC5. Very enjoyable.

Essential for any Big Country fan
Don't let the price scare you off. This CD is packed with nearly 80 minutes of music! The early recordings are of very good quality. I wasn't aware that keyboards figured so prominently in Big Country's first incarnation. The live gig that follows the interview clip is Big Country's first show ever. It's raw, but quite listenable. A right treat to hear proto versions of The Crossing, Porrohman, etc. Brilliant work by Furry Records. Thanks for bringing this historical audio recording to market.

rocks like 1982!!
A corker of a release. The music really rocks. A real find! Earthy, vital and intelligent, the music places you right in the heart of the action, circa 1981 - 1983. Its on the original drummer’s own Furry Records imprint, and the tracks seem to be a mixture, from his own archive, and that of original label CBS.. A must have!!
