Album Notes
The 3 young men of The Big Distraction have been jamming together since they first picked up their instruments in Pawtucket, Rhode Island (Think "The Family Guy"). After being in many other projects separately, they formed The Big Distraction and began playing out in 2005 to a growing fan base. They've been playing shows in the New England area from Providence (Giza, The Call, The Century, The Blackstone), to Boston (the Middle East, Bill's Bar), to New York (CBGB's ).

This interesting three piece creates music that has been described as jam&prog infused classic rock. They like bringing rock back to roots with tube amp driven guitar melodies, unpolished 70's rock approach to recording, strong melodic vocals, and jamming live shows. They've been known to WHIP OUT off the cuff covers of classic NINTENDO Muisc, and great MOVIE Sountracks such as WONKA during their energetic performances.

They grew up listening to Crazy and Diverse influences- bands such as Rush, The Police, Phish, Prince,The Allman Brothers, Mike Patton,Grand Funk Railroad, David Bowie, Led Zep, Jeff Beck, Yes, Jimi, Dream Theater, Vai, ZAPPA,Talking Heads, and of course NINTENDO(they're A.D.D. stricken children of the 80's) just to name a few.

With pop sensibilities, an Experimental MIND SET, and hints of
blues, jazz,& roots rock, The Big Distraction is looking to give music and song lovers something they want... good songs, and a good time. The members of The Big Distraction ( Joe Thurber, Brandon Hull, and Nate Thurber) describe their music as "funk-soul-prog -pop- rock with a little Jam on top and cool Blues juice on the side". Lyrically, they explore the little Quirky and Ironic happenings that make LIFE WORTH LIVING. The main ingredient to this Tasty Dish though, is Rock- but with such a variety to offer, music lovers should definitely BRING THEIR APPETITES....

The Business

Incredible disc, not a bad track on the whole album!
The Big Distraction certainly delivers immensely on their debut effort, leaving lots to the imagination as to what direction they may take next. From the first note on Mad Hatter Mercury to the ending of 3 Notes on Fire, this is one heck of an album. Story of My Life (Hurricane) is my jam, lyrically & musically, it is catered for today's listening public & with a positive message / swirling drum beats this is a track that has SINGLE written all over it. Breaking Bones delivers a strong message about the clout News media has in today’s world and the barbaric like tone they take with each broadcast. There is a line that goes " hey Mrs. Anchor lady, do you know what you are reading, you laugh at war and cry at weather now you're so deceiving", which couldn't be any closer to the truth. Mbuna is a instrumental jam that leaves you in a phish-like state, perfect intermission for an album with this much intensity. I highly suggest music lovers of all ages purchase this album, you will not be disappointed.

better than so many works out there, this is to be shared!

Big Pops

This is IT!!!!
Allright boys, from back in the day when we all grew up together, to the day that is here, our adult days, you guys still can rock a kitten outta a tree without having to call the fire department. What i am trying to say here is that this album is sooo smooth and spicy at the same time. I need a glass of water after every listen of that Song Gotta get some love in this room, Why? Simply because it dries me out, all the emotion on that track is incredable..You boys need to seriously think about making this your careers. I love this CD, EVERYONE SHOULD BUY THIS RECORD, FOR IT WILL MAKE HAPPINESS IN YOUR HEARTS.great work fellas

A nice Distraction: The Big boys': Avoidance Behaviors
Joe Thurber, Brandon Hull, and Nate Thurber of the Big Distraction were all in other bands before coming together in late 2003. They only started playing out earlier this year, but they’ve already managed to squeeze out a home demo and a proper home studio debut, Avoidance Behaviors: The Home Made Jams. The boys in the band call their sound "funk-soul-prog-pop-rock," which means it’s pretty much a smorgasbord of colorful noise. In a short time, they’ve grown to become an entertaining outfit live, and their material lends itself to colorful performances in an Oingo Boingo/Blues Traveler kind of way. It’s breezy and lite, but unpredictable in many way, with enough to u-turns and blind alleys in each song to keep toe-tappers off-balance. Songs such as "Tea Party" and "Breakin’ Bones" are prog takes on pop, which makes it really intriguing, if a little disorienting. Great big grooves and as-advertised funk keep the fannies moving, the songs jumpin’, and the beer flowing. Who cares if there are, like, five hooks in every tune? If ideas are that plentiful, what the hell — pitch ’em all in and see what sticks. The record could use better production, but there’s a lot to be proud of here and, if nothing else, it’s a good reason to see the band live.

Cosmik Breakdown-ah!!
Almost as great as Gorilla Kill!!!
