Album Notes
Rarely does a big band CD come out that really does sound contemporary. Well, this one does. Various compositions of Bills’ spanning over 25 years were arranged by the great Michael Abene and played by the world-renowned WDR Big Band from Köln, Germany. This Big Band is super charged from the start, and ace drummer Dave Weckl and bassist Mark Egan round off the project. It was recorded live at the Stadtgarten in Köln (Cologne), so it has that supercharged feel to it. This CD is a sure thing. This is when a Big Band has the sound of a tight small ensemble. The WDR can pull this off and shines here.
