ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Is it a snapshot of a past, is it a look into your future, or is "LAIR" simply the soundtrack for it all?

"LAIR" began as a musical concept for Billy Brush in 2001. Encouraged by industry friends and fellow musicians, this NW based musician, producer, and engineer created what can only be described as art.

With the support of musicians and studios across the United States and Vietnam, "LAIR" has evolved into a full-fledged working ensemble. A panoramic mixture of electronic and organic elements creates a unique, sonic landscape reminiscent of bands and artists such as Beck, Bjork, Goldfrapp and Claude Debussy. Featuring songs that pass through moments of quiet ambience to complex and layered arrangements of pianos, guitars, samples and more, "LAIR" at the same time never takes the listener for granted, and always offers up something new and unique with every track.

Johnny Valenzuela - KECH-95

All over the map CAN be a good thing!
You must go into this album with an open mind, as it starts by giving the impression you're in for soundscapes a la King Crimson, Porcupine Tree, and Deep Forest. But then there's songs, sounds, effects, moods, atmospheres; all in a comfortable space from someone who sounds like you've been friends with your whole life. It's dark at times, but never threatening. It's warm at times, but never quite carefree. This is much better listened to as a complete album rather than any one song taken out of context, and headphones are encouraged! Billy is all over the map here, but the cohesive threads of stunning production and clever-yet-subtle catchiness make "Lair" a great CD to have in the collection, and a wonderful CD to throw on when you have a spare 40 minutes.
