Album Notes
A young master of the Indian bamboo flute - the Bansuri

Binay Krishna Baral began his study under the influence of his uncle, Sri Herambar Roy, then under the guidance of Pandit Gopal Ray. He then continued under Prof. Pranab Mukherjee, Prof. Nikhilesh Ray and Prof. Deba Prasad Banerjee, world-renouned Bansuri Masters and exponents of the Indian classical tradition. This tradition represents the total and profound revival of the ancient and pure form of the "music of Nature" - Gandharva Veda, which creates balance both in the individual and in the environment. Binay continues to train under Sri Partho Das and Sri Nirmalya Dev, well-known Sitar Maestro and Dhrupad singer, respectively, and under the continued guidance of Guru Shishya Parampara.

Binay took an MA in Philosophy in 1984. Subsequently, HE WAS AWARDED AN INDIAN GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP for advanced flute studies and went on to achieve an MA in Instrumental Music from the Rabindra Bharatri University, Calcutta, in 1987. In 1988 he was awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching (BT), while at the same time he had been performing his music regularly on an All India Radio (Calcutta). Since 1988 Binay has been on tour, performing in concert for Maharishi Festivals of Music for World Peace in England, Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Holland, Russia, Israel, Scotland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden, and Ukraine. During this time he has also been teaching and conducting workshops for appreciative students in these countries.

His fine level of performance of the ragas and his ability to capture all the subtleties of the Swaras, or notes, has won him acclaim from audiences everywhere. In Yugoslavia, in 1990, an audience of over 2,000 enthusiastically applauded his brilliant mastery of the Bansuri and the depth of style in his performance, and in Rome the same year he played to an enraptured audience of over 1,300. While in Scotland in 1992, Binay performed at one the world's greatest celebrations of the Arts, the EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL, where he received outstanding reviews. During his concert tours Binay has held many television and radio interviews: he has made countless hours of audio recordings for the Maharishi Channel (Veda Vision), which began broadcasting in 1998 from a global network of eight satellites that broadcast to every continent. These recordings include a special recording for the video footage of the historic and auspicious Maha Kumbha Mela, India, in 2001.

Pandit Binay Krishna Baral is currently performing and teaching at Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield, Iowa.

Peaceful, Joyful and Harmonizing
I enjoyed very much listening this album in the evening time with eyes closed... Harmony, joy, inner peace and silence has been enlivened by the 3 different tracks (each having its own particular charm). I sincerely recommend this album to everyone searching for a music that allows the flow of tender feelings deep inside oneself.

Back to the Self
As soon as Pandit Binay Krishna Baral starts playing, the eyes close and the mind goes back to the Self. When a Raga is over, we are left with the feeling of a long meditation – very purifying and blissful.

Transcendantal music
Binay's music is sublime, divine and transcendantal. His flow on his flute is not from the lungs but from Being.

When I listen to Binay's music, my entire physiology settles down and I experience a deep level of happiness and love in my heart.

At he same time, his music creates an influence of peace, harmony and coherence in the room and the entire apartment.

It is very uplifting to listen to Binay's music during the evening. It is relaxing, soothing and most nourishing to the environment, body, mind, heart and Being.

Thank you, dear Binay, for sharing with us your divine, transcendantal and blissfull music.

You are the master of the music of the Self, of Atma.

Binay's music resonates in total harmony with nature and is a perfect expression of Maharishi Gandharva Ved as described by Maharishi himself.

Maharishi tells us with reference to Gandharva Veda:

That the first syllable of Gandharva is 'Gand' which correponds to the first syllable of Rik Ved which is 'Agnim'.

'A' is the totality and 'Gnim' is the dynamism of 'A' which quantifies 'A'.

The universe is the expression of 'Gnim'.

The universe in perpetual expansion is harmonious. Gandharva is the melody of the universe.

Gandharva is the melody of nature. Life is more nourishing with melody. Melody helps everything to evolve.

With Gandharva, we can create harmony, health and a nourishing influence in world consciousness.

Gandharva is at the origin of creation. Gandharva is unbounded consciousness in mouvement.

The infinite silence coexists with infinite dynamism from point to infinity and the universe evolves in a musical way. Transcendantal Consciousness is a calm ocean of bliss. The silent dynamism is eternally harmonious. This is the glorious seat of Gandharva.

Gandharva is the abstract flow of infinite silence. Gandharva knows silence and dynamism and is expressed in 'Gnim', Agnim', the first syllable of the Ved. From there emerges all the branches of Ved and creation.

Gandharva music eliminates negativity in the environment and the impurities in the physiology.

Gandharva is the mother of all music. Its music is pleasant and relaxing. Gandharva is the source of all music. It's music produces a lasting effect of harmony.

When we pratctice TM, we contact the infinite silence coexisting with infinite dynamism which is the source of creation. We then perceive the first impulses of conciousness or the first syllable of Ved, 'A', then 'Agnim', which is also the first syllable of Gandharva, 'Gand' or 'Gnim'.

From Transcendantal Consciousness emerges the Vedic mantras which are the first sounds of creation. These perfect melodies of nature produce Maharishi Gandharva Ved music which is the melody of nature creating a harmonious and nourishig influence everywhere in the universe: Heaven on Earth.

Sublime and Transcendental
I have had the privilege of enjoying the pure bliss of many live performances of pundit Binay Krishna Baral and listening to these recordings, I was taken to that same elevated state of rapture and surprise as Binay's compositions entice us through the different moods of the ragas. His music is a pure expression of his personality, deep, spiritual, loving, playful and devoted. Sublime and transcendental.

Returning Home
This album is powerful.

The music Mr. Binay Krishna Baral creates has the effect of transporting me to a peaceful place miles away from another time.
I love it, very soothing; I enjoy this album whenever I need to unplug and relax.
I've been fortunate enough to see Mr. Binay Krishna Baral perform live on several occasions; I strongly recommend taking advantage of being near such a master if the opportunity presents its self.

Clears the Mind and Opens the heart
For me music is as powerful a technology for self development as any other technique and of course simply beautiful. I am so delighted that Binay-Ji has released his first CD. I have been studying on and off with Binay-Ji for the last 4 years and now it's a joy to hear our beloved teacher play the tunes all his students have come to love so much. His raags transform the entire atmosphere of my room and me too, i feel simpler, peaceful, and soothed.
