The Power House of Deliverance (PHD) Cathedral Choir is a torchbearer for music ministries everywhere. This choir consists of young adults and seasoned saints blended together to create the perfect mix of wisdom and creativity that unites them together with one purpose in mind, “the winning of souls and maintaining of the same in the Kingdom of God that is with man, as they await their entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven.” Birthed out of the Power House of Deliverance Garden Cathedral in Greensboro, NC, they operate under the same anointing and power that rest on their Senior Pastor, Bishop W. L. Washington. For over 20 years, they have remained consistent in their ability to minister through song. Under the tutelage of Minister Kevin Cummings, the PHD Cathedral Choir has become one of the most sought after choirs in the Triad. After much prayer, preparation, and discipline the PHD Cathedral Choir has effectively equipped themselves to make the transition from “church choir” to “recording choir”.
On August 5, 2007 they hosted the live recording of their debut album, The Christ Factor, at their home church. The Christ Factor is a 19 track CD that masterfully blends different genres of gospel music together to create the total Christian experience. Unlike other choir albums that have one general audience, The Christ Factor meets the needs of a wide range of gospel music fans. From the melodic groove of the first single "Holiness" that speaks to the young gospel music lover. To the hand-clapping, foot stomping "Church Medley" that the older saints grew up on. To the inspirational chant "Never Let You Go" that ministers to anyone who needs uplifting and inspiration. The Christ Factor was digitally pre-released in June 2008 and immediately experienced MP3 downloads on Amazon MP3, iTunes, and other digital online stores. “I Can Do It” and “More than Enough” being among the highest streamed songs. The melodies are skillfully crafted to move you from praise to worship to repentance. The harmonies are precise, the lead vocalists sing like seasoned professionals, and the lyrics are written with Heaven in mind. Combine this with a live band featuring the legendary Mo’ Horns and you have a recipe for a success. The Christ Factor received heavy air-play on local radio stations such as WNAA 90.1 FM and WEAL 1510 AM. It was also played on 1580 AM in Washington DC, as well as WGBN, WPGR, & WAMO in Philadelphia, PA.
With the release of this album, the PHD Cathedral Choir has positioned themselves to be a force to be reckoned with in the gospel industry. The spirit of excellence and professionalism that this choir exudes has afforded them the opportunity to minister before gospel greats such as Kim Burrell, Pastor Nancy Wilson, and LeJuene Thompson. During their 2009 Summer Tour, they were featured guests at the Birthing Place Conference with Bishop T.D. Jakes. The Charleston Gazette called them a "Powerful Choir". They were also the opening act for Shirley Ceasar's "I Got Nexx Talent Competition", where they were requested to minister an encore performance. All of their hard work is starting to pay off as the PHD Cathedral Choir continues to increase their popularity with gospel music fans all over the country.
